John Vernon Stallcup, age 99, son of Preston C. and Mary (Stottlemyre) Stallcup, was born on August 9, 1914 in Upton, Mo. He passed away on September 14, 2013 in Liberty Hospital, Liberty, Mo.
With interment in the Hickory Ridge Cemetery, Bucyrus, Mo. with military honors. He attended Pleasant Ridge Elementary School and two years of high school. He then attended Houston High school and was a member of the athletic teams. He entered military service in 1944 and served in the Pacific Theater seeing action in the invasion of Leyte Bay and Luzon.
John married Thelma Campbell on February 8, 1936, to this union, four children were born: Ronald, Jerry, Karen, and Rita.
He was preceded in death by his parents, PC and Mary Stallcup, his wife of 77 years, Sim, three brothers, Floyd, Short and Jerb; four sisters Leah, Golda, Hazel, and Shirley.
He is survived by his sons Ronald and wife Dixie, of Vandalia, Mo., Jerry Stallcup and wife Trudy of Bucyrus, Mo.; two daughters Karen Gallucci and husband Joe of North Canton, Ohio; Rita Alvarado and husband Tony of Holt, Mo.; 10 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Bob Stallcup and wife Evelyn of Bucyrus, Mo.; two sisters, Velma Minnis of Chillicothe, Mo. and Wilma Riek of Billings, Mont., numerous other relatives and a host of friends. Pallbearers were Tim Barker, John Stallcup, Mark Stallcup, Josh Stallcup, Mike Stallcup, Tanner Fennewald, Scott Stallcup, Corey Stallcup, and Ted Witte. John loved the Lord, his family, and friends. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
