John T. Grote, age 59,, of Bowling Green, passed away Wednesday March 19, 2014 at the residence of his son. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Monday at the Mudd-Veach Funeral Home in Bowling Green, with Fr. Lou Dorn officiating. Final interment was in the St. Clement Cemetery. Visitation was held Sunday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
He was born Jan. 25, 1955 in Louisiana, the son of Ansel and Martha Lou Stark Grote. John was married to Nadyne Creed and of this union four children were born; Chris Grote and wife Jennifer of Bowling Green, Ansel Grote and wife Sara of Frankford, Ben Grote of Ash Grove, and Donald Grote, who preceded him in death. Also preceding him in death were his father and brother Tom. Other survivors include his mother of Bowling Green; grandchildren Molly, Aiden, Jocelyn and Caleb Grote; brothers Wayne, Harry, and Bob Grote of Bowling Green, and Joe Grote of Louisiana, Larry Grote of Frankford; sisters Patti Soukup and Betty Carter, both of Columbia.
John lived in Springfield until 1979 when he moved to Iowa then Wisconsin. He returned to Pike County in 1990. He worked in hog farming all of his life, where he worked for Jim Tepen, Ralph Epperson, and Fisher Farms. He loved fishing with his grandchildren and enjoyed watching John Wayne movies and listening to Elvis Presley.
