The Van-Far Alumni and Friends Association is pleased to announce that Vandalia native Jerry Gibson will be the speaker for its annual Alumni dinner, which will be held on Sunday, September 27, 2015 at 12:30 p.m. in the Van-Far High School Gym. The Alumni Association has planned the dinner for the Sunday of Prairie Days so that guests may take part in all Chamber of Commerce activities planned for Saturday night as well as Van-Far Homecoming activities on Friday evening. The Sunday Alumni Dinner, which will be served at 12:30 p.m., will feature a wood- smoked pork chop and a chicken dish.
During the registration time, beginning at 11:30 a.m., Van-Far students will be offering tours of the High School for those who are interested in seeing changes made to the building since it opened in 1958. Upon request, meeting rooms will be available for class meetings and get-togethers before and after the dinner.
Tickets, at a cost of $20 per guest, will be available after August 1 at the Van -Far High School office, Craig’s Truck and Tractor, or by calling 594-3308. The ticket price covers the cost of the meal and expenses, with the remainder going to the Alumni Scholarship Fund.
Jerry Gibson graduated from Van-Far in 1970 and from the University of Missouri in 1974. He then began a very successful career in the grain industry and is currently Vice-President of Operations for EGT, LLC a joint venture of Bunge North America and ITOCHU International located on the Columbia River in Longview, Washington.
Jerry is the son of Natalie Gibson, of rural Vandalia, and the late Duane Gibson. Jerry’s youngest brothers, Donnie and David, and their families also live and farm in the Vandalia area.
Jerry is married to the former Patti Howell, daughter of Helen Howell and the late Dr. William L. Howell. Jerry and Patti have three grown children: Jon, Jeremy, and Alicia.
By popular demand, the Singing Van-Far Alumni, as well as Teachers and Friends will again be performing music which will bring back memories to those attending. The group includes Brenda Owens, Ruth Calcaterra, Ruth Nation, Deanna Divins, Brian Hummel, and Joel Montgomery.
