JERRY CLAYTON HAYS

VANDALIA-Services for Jerry Clayton Hays, 88, of Vandalia, will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, September 2, 2015 at Vandalia  First Baptist Church Family Life Center with the Reverend Bob Hoehn officiating.
Burial will be in Vandalia Cemetery, with military honors provided by the Laddonia American Legion Post No. 510.
Visitation will be Wednesday morning from 10 until 11 a.m. at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Bienhoff Funeral Home.
Mr. Hays passed away at 8:20 a.m., August 31, 2015 at SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital-Audrain, Mexico, Mo.
He was born July 24, 1927 in Audrain County, the son of Leslie Venton and Susie Pew Hays.
Survivors include: one daughter, Debby Nichols of Laddonia; three sisters, Evelyn Dudley, Doris Mink, and Shirley Jennings, all of Vandalia;  and one granddaughter, Bethny (Anthony) Riecke of New Bloomfield.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Nelson, Venton, Bill, and Kenneth Hays; and two sisters, Wanda Smith and Dorothy Hays. Mr. Hays worked in the construction brick industry for over 30 years as a tuck pointer. He served in the US Army for six years. He grew up in Vandalia  and then followed his job. He moved back 30 years ago following his retirement. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and watching the Cardinals play ball.
Pallbearers will be Charlie Jennings, Mike Jennings, Charles Jennings, Kevin Mink, Mickey Mink, and Bill Cockrell.
