Van-Far’s Jayson Orr was one of 99 golfers who recently participated in the Class 1 State Championships at Silo Ridge Country Club in Bolivar, Mo.
As the Indians’ lone state qualifier, Orr did well on day one with a score of 91 for the 55th best round on the Par 72 course.
“Jayson played a pretty decent round on day one,” said Van-Far head golf coach Alex Cucciarre. “There were a few technical errors, but he definitely had some great moments as well. You could tell he was really into the course and figuring out what needed to be done. He was out there enjoying himself, which is what matters most at this level.”
On day two, Orr shot a 105 to drop him into a four-way tie for 72nd place. His two-day total was 196.
“Day two was a little tougher on him,” Cucciarre said.
“He couldn’t seem to catch a break when he needed it. It was tough, but he pushed through and finished strong. Overall, I just wanted him to enjoy this round, as it was the last competitive round of the season. It took a while, but he finally got a smile on his face. It’s tough playing at the state level as a sophomore, but he handled himself well, and I am incredibly proud of him for that.”
