Four members of the Monroe County Democratic Club traveled to Macon on Saturday, April 12 to attend the spring meeting of the Sixth District Women’s Democratic Clubs.
Judy Harmon, Monroe County Assessor; Kathy McCoy, Sixth District Secretary; Janie Thomas; and Becky Vanlandingham, Sixth District First Vice-President attended the meeting held in AJ’s Restaurant.
During the business meeting, the Sixth District’s nominee for “Woman of the Year” was announced.
From four candidates, Janie Thomas, of Vandalia, was chosen the winner. She will represent the Sixth District at the Missouri Federation of Women’s Democratic Club state meeting to be held on Saturday, June 14 in Kansas City.Plans were announced for the National Federation’s Convention being held this year in Missouri. It runs from June 11 – June 15, 2014 at the Sheraton Crown Center in Kansas City.
Approximately 250 members from across the country are expected to attend.
Wes Shoemyer, Monroe County, was the keynote speaker. He spoke on “Right to Farm, Wrong for Missouri.” Six District Congressional candidate Bill Hedge also spoke to the group.
The next meeting of the Monroe County Democratic Club will be on Tuesday, June 24 at 7 p.m. at the Madison Community Center.
The next meeting of the Sixth District Club will be in October with the exact date and location to be announced.
