Wallace W. Thurman, 96, formerly of Higginsville, died Nov. 8, 2022, in Lee’s Summit, MO.
He was born Feb. 22, 1926, in Louisville, Ky., to Glaucus and Charity (Cain) Thurman.
He served in the U.S. Navy from February 1944-June 1946. He married Charlotte Krauss on June 13, 1953, in Cincinnati, Ohio. She died earlier on March 23, 2009.
Wallace was an ordained Presbyterian minister. He served churches in Ohio, Illinois and Missouri, including Willard, Mo., Vandalia, Mo., Slater, Mo., Flat River, Mo. He retired in 1991 and they moved to Higginsville. After Charlotte’s death he moved to Lee’s Summit.
Wally, as he like to be called, was a very friendly person. He enjoyed reading, especially to children; and his vegetable and flower gardens. He was a former Lions Club member.
In addition to his wife, a son, Paul; his brothers, G.G. and Gage Thurman; his sisters, Mary Francis Adcock and Vivian McIntosh, all died earlier.
He is survived by son, Mark Thurman, Justin, Texas, daughter, Lessie Calvert, Slater, Mo.; two grandchildren, Thomas and Charlotte Thurman; two step great grandchildren, Christopher and Michelle Calvert.
Graveside services were held on Monday, Nov. 14 at 11 a.m. at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville, officiated by Rev. Liz Lindsey. Memorials are suggested to Doctors without Borders or the Muscular Dystrophy Assn. Condolences may be left for the family at www.kaiserwiegers.com.
