There was an abundance of laughter on Sunday evening as Van-Far High School hosted a charity Donkey Basketball game. Teams of students, business owners and firefighters faced off in an epic battle to score points while seated on their donkeys. Some of the action that prompted the evening’s laughter was when a donkey would stall and refuse to move or take off running from their jockeys.
The first game was between “Average Josephs” and “The Jennys.” The winner was The Jennys with a score of 10-4. The second game was played between “Grabbin Assets” and “Winded Warriors.” Grabbin Assets won with a score of 8-6. The championship game was played by Grabbin Assets and The Jennys. The final score was 8-6, with Grabbin Assets winning the championship.
Highlights during the game included Superintendent John Fortney and FFA adviser and agriculture instructor Blaise Stuedle taking center court to kiss a donkey. Proceeds from the event were to go to scholarships for seniors at Van-Far. There was also a silent auction, food, and drinks available during the game.
