On Wednesday, March 22, at approximately 4:47 p.m., an Audrain County Sheriff’s deputy conducted a vehicle stop in the 600 block of Buchanan Street in Mexico for a traffic violation. During the traffic stop investigation, Garey D. Reeves, 37, of Mexico was identified as a vehicle occupant.
Reeves was found to be in possession of a distribution amount of fentanyl and U.S. currency consistent with the illegal distribution of illegal controlled substances. Reeves was arrested and transported to the Audrain County Jail for felony drug trafficking in the first degree. Reeves is being held in the jail without bond, pending the formal filing of charges by the Audrain County prosecuting attorney and bond setting.
The Audrain County Sheriff’s Office will continue to work with other law enforcement agencies and community partners to curb drug abuse throughout the county, which so many times lead to other criminal offenses. The investigation is ongoing and further charges could be forthcoming. All suspects are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty in a court of law.
