For the first time since 1988, the Van-Far Lady Indians won the Bowling Green Invitational Championship game. During the opening night of the Bowling Green tournament, the Lady Indians defeated North Callaway with a final score of 40-21. The Indians played against Elsberry and took a loss with a final score of 57-54. On Wednesday, the girls battled Elsberry for a shot at the Championship game. They succeeded with a final score of 35-26. On Friday night, the Lady Indians faced the Silex Lady Owls for the Championship game. They celebrated a victory, with a final score of 54-47. As the clock ran out at the end of the game, the crowd erupted with cheering fans throughout the auditorium.
“It feels great to win the championship,” said All Tournament Team MVP, Mara Jensen. “I think that a lot of teams overlook us, but this win will put us in our place,” she added. Coach Heather Minter was proud of her players overall performance. “Mara did well and stayed focused,” said Minter. “Mara is the kid who comes in early and stays late to get the job done. She has a really bright future. Devyn Keller did a great job of taking care of the ball tonight. And Carmen Wilburn made some great shots,” she added.
