The monthly flea market held at the Vandalia Area Fairgrounds welcomed several new vendors last Friday and Saturday. Event organizer Patricia Kraft said that the weekend was an overall success.
“It was a good weekend with a steady stream of people,” said Kraft. “We had several new vendors come out and set up on Friday and Saturday and we also had our regular vendors who have been with us since the beginning,” she added.
On Saturday morning, Kraft said that she was nervous about the weather as there was a bad storm that came close to hitting Vandalia. She said that there was a brief period of a little rain but there were no issues, and everyone did fine. In Louisiana, Mo., vendors were not so lucky at their monthly flea market. A sudden downpour of heavy rain and large hail sent vendors and patrons scrambling to take cover. Beside the brief rain in Vandalia, vendors said that the wind picked up in the afternoon.
“The weather has been all right apart from the high winds that have developed this afternoon,” said Brian Nordstrom. “We have done well here today selling comic books and other merchandise. We didn’t get to set up on Friday but just being here today we have made over $250. We are from the Warrenton area, and we travel all over to sell our products at events like these. Our next scheduled event will be tomorrow in Union. My goal in buying and selling at these events has been to pay off the enclosed trailer that I am using here today. It is almost paid off already, since purchasing it in January,” he added.
Other new vendors included an Amish family who were selling baked goods over the course of the weekend. The next scheduled flea market will be on Friday, June 2, and Saturday June 3. For more information about the flea market, you may call 573-721-7511 or visit them on Facebook..
