Last Thursday, three Van-Far High School students received awards for their submissions in the Vandalia Area Historical Society Sesquicentennial logo contest.
Members of the VAHS began seeking artwork submissions for the 2024 celebration logo during the initial event planning meeting last fall. After the deadline of Feb. 1, members narrowed down submissions to first, second, and third place winners.

Requirements for the design included that it incorporate certain language and that the design be in black and white. The contest was sponsored by Cordelio Power. The first place logo was designed by Woodrow Polston; second place was Olivia Wood; third place was Kyleigh Preston and Ashton Dyke. Kimberly Haney, who is a senior acquisitions agent with Tenaska/ Cordelio, congratulated the winners.

“We at Cordelio Power are happy to help support the community and offer our congratulations to the winners here today,” said Haney.
Winners of the contest were presented images of their designs by VAHS Secretary Joy Davis. They also received Cordelio branded merchandise and were presented checks as a grand prize which totaled $150, representing the 150th sesquicentennial celebration. The first place logo design will be used for all promotional materials for the 2024 event. Planning continues at the VAHS meetings and all are welcome to attend.
