Hoping for a packed house on Friday night

Leading into this week’s Friday night football match-up with Bowling Green, the Van-Far/Community R-VI football team is 3-0 and is hoping to finally pick up a win over its local rival.
The Bobcats are 1-2 but are coming off an impressive victory over Clopton/Elsberry after scoring 60 points on the Indianhawks.
So why am I writing this editorial about football?
Well, it’s because this group of Indians need your help and support to make this Friday night a special one in Vandalia.
At 7 p.m. on Friday, September 8, the Indians are taking on the Bobcats with not only the hopes of going 4-0, but with the hopes of picking up a victory that could carry this team to a successful 2017 season.
This is a program-defining game and my hope is fans from both the Van-Far and Community R-VI school districts can pack the stands.
There are more parking spots at the high school lot this year; let’s fill them all and then some.
Let’s have cars parked all the way down both sides of the gravel road running next to the school.
Perhaps, some people will have no choice but to stand because there is not enough seating.
For those of you who know me, I love football.
I’ve covered football locally now for 10 years.
While some other Indians teams have had characteristics of being a great team, those squads only went so far before injuries and other factors hurt their chances.
I’m telling you, there’s something special about this squad.
These players have put in hard work throughout the offseason, gained a dig-deep edge through tough conditioning drills, and they are willing to make adjustments as their coaches give them during every game and practice.
The Indians have had previous chances to beat the Bobcats in past years.
But when game time came, Bowling Green flexed their muscles and typically won the one-sided affairs.
Perhaps with the help of a large crowd creating a special buzz for the players, this could be the week the Indians get over the hump.

Let’s Go Indians!
