It has been five months since Central Missouri Honor Flight has taken a planeload of veterans to Washington, D.C. to see their war memorials. Fight No. 32 kicks off the 2015 flight season in grand style for another exciting year of making memories for area veterans.
On Monday, April 20, approximately 70 mid-Missouri veterans will fly to Washington, D.C. to visit the memorials to their service and sacrifice.
The veterans on Flight No. 32 will enjoy a one-day tour of the WWII Memorial, Korean War Memorial, Vietnam Memorial, Battle of Iwo Jima Memorial, and Arlington National Cemetery. At the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, Honor Flight veterans are quietly and respectfully acknowledged during the Changing of the Guard.
This flight includes veterans from World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. CMHF’s 32nd mission departs Columbia at 2 a.m. on Monday, April 20, and returns to a rousing homecoming at 10:40 p.m. at the Courtyard Marriott.
Traveling with the veterans will be a medical team as well as guardians who assist veterans with wheelchairs, walkers, oxygen, and companionship on the flight.
“We always look forward to the start of the flight season, because we know how deeply moving the honor flight experience is for the local heroes that will be flying with us,” said Mary Paulsell, president of Central Missouri Honor Flight. “With Flight No. 32, we will have taken more than 2,000 veterans to Washington, D.C. since 2009 when the chapter started. And it has truly been our honor to help them make their journeys, one-by-one.”
More can still be done. Veteran applications can be printed from the CMHF website at www.centralmissourihonorflight.com and returned via mail.
Funds are always needed to keep the flights going. Donations may be mailed to this all-volunteer organization at 1400 Forum Boulevard, Suite 1C, Box 334, Columbia, Mo.
