Tina Hogue-Pickett, a Hannibal resident and daughter of Vandalia residents Bill and Delores Hogue, recently signed up as an American Red Cross volunteer for Ralls and Marion Counties.
Little did she realize she would be deployed to assist victims of Hurricane Harvey on the Texas and Louisiana coasts.
She left Friday, August 25 for the Texas coast with other volunteers from the Hannibal American Red Cross planning to follow on Monday. Her inspiration for volunteering was to give back to the community and to help those devastated by what is expected to be the largest rainfall and flooding since Hurricane Katrina. She has been learning Spanish online for approximately one year. Pickett expects to be in the Texas Golf area approximately two weeks before returning home.
