Congratulations goes to the Van-Far boys track and field program after winning the school’s first ever district title for the boys.
The Indians dominated a large Class 1, District 1 field this past Saturday in Festus and beat defending champion Vibernum by 35 points.
This was an amazing accomplishment.
The program has went from no boys competing in districts just two years ago to not only competing, but dominating the competition at this year’s district contest.
Van-Far’s boys now have a solid chance at winning the top spot at this week’s Sectionals and perhaps make a run for a top four finish at the state championships.
I want to publicly acknowledge head coach Blake Logan for the tremendous work he’s done in changing the culture of the district since he’s been at Van-Far.
As a former football player myself, I understand the value gained from time in the weight room.
It took a lot of patience but Coach Logan started to change the culture through the weight lifting program.
Saturday’s district title should show all of Van-Far’s athletes that there is a blueprint for success in all sports. This begins in the weight room and the boys title paid tribute to these efforts.
Thankfully, this boys team is compiled of mostly underclassmen so district fans can look forward to experiencing even more success in the future.
If the boys and girls in the district continue to put an emphasis on the weight room, they will be like many other area districts and start achieving success in many of the other sports as well.
If you see any of the track and field athletes or coaches this week, be sure to congratulate them for the success.
The many faithful parents and staff who have endured some long track and field meets supporting the athletes should also be acknowledged for their role in this team winning a district title.
Several boys and girls will now compete in Sectionals this week.
The Vandalia Leader staff wishes them the best of luck.
