The Ralls County SWCD, NRCS and University Extension will be hosting a 2 day Grazing School in Perry on June 7 and June 8.
Cost to attend is $60 per person and an additional $40 for a spouse, child, or business partner.
The cost will cover materials and meals. The school is designed to teach producers the basics of Management Intensive Grazing with a hands-on approach. The two-day workshop will provide opportunities for in-depth discussions, field exercises, and reference materials that cover both livestock and agronomic topics related to grazing.
Attendees will tour two area farms with active grazing systems and be able to visit with the landowners that operate them.
One farm has an extensive water system with over 12 paddocks and low water crossings. The other farm has an active spring with 10 paddocks on 40ac.
These farms will provide a look at grazing system possibilities on both large and small tracts. Both Producers have attended this grazing school in the past. There will be a fencing demonstration as well as pasture evaluation to help attendees make decisions on their own farms.
If producers are thinking about utilizing SWCD cost-share programs to develop a Grazing System, attendance at a Grazing School is a requirement prior to application.
If you are interested in attending or would like more information, please contact Lucas Brass-573-985-8611, ext. 3, or Daniel Mallory at 573-985-3911.
The registration deadline will be June 1, 2018
