The 32 members and guests of the Grand Prairie Society, Children of the American Revolution, met Sunday, September 18, 2016, at the Vandalia First Presbyterian Church for their formal re-organizing ceremony. Senior Re-Organizing President Joy Davis called the meeting to order. Chaplain Taryn Adam gave the invocation.
The opening included The Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the USA led by Alec Adam, The “Star-Spangled Banner” led by Mrs. Glee Hanson and accompanied by pianist Mrs. Ruth Calcaterra, The American’s Creed led by Paige Dameron, The C.A.R. Creed led by Claire Motley, the Object of C.A.R. read by Trent Maiden, and the C.A.R. Mission Statement read by Kailey Luebrecht.
The 2 p.m. gathering included the installation of the society officers and the senior advisory officers by the Missouri State Senior C.A.R. President Betsy Leighton of Hazelwood, Mo. They are President Alec Adam, Senior President Mr. Ken Hofer; Vice-President Jordan Garner, Senior Vice-President Mrs. Judy Flowers; Chaplain Taryn Adam, Senior Chaplain Mrs. Jen Adam; Recording Secretary Claire Motley, Senior Recording Secretary Mrs. Beth Motley; Corresponding Secretary Kailey Luebrecht, Senior Corresponding Secretary Ms. Krista Luebrecht; Treasurer Paige Dameron, Senior Treasurer Mrs. Teresa Wenzel; Registrar Trent Maiden, Senior Registrar Mrs. Ruth Miller; Historian Gabriel Bryant, Senior Historian Mrs. Mandi Bryant; and Librarian/Curator MaKenna Unglesbee, Senior Librarian/Curator Ms. Nici Brown.
The history of the Grand Prairie Society was read and the members were introduced and their Revolutionary War Patriot ancestors were named. They are Alec and Taryn Adam, Patriot Thomas Gaines, of Virginia; Elijah and Gabriel Bryant, Patriot James Cannon, of South Carolina; Kylie and Paige Dameron, Patriot Charles Huckstep, of Virginia; Jacob and Jordan Garner, Patriot Nathaniel Vannoy, of North Carolina; Kailey Luebrecht, Patriot Nathaniel Harrelson, of North Carolina; Trent Maiden, Patriot Elijah Hendricks, of Virginia; Ashley and Trevor Miller, Patriot Adam Hance, of Virginia; Claire, Rebecca and Sarah Motley, Patriot Jacob Woodson, of Virginia; Makenna Unglesbee, Patriot Nathaniel Vannoy, of North Carolina; and Erin Wenzel, Patriot John Worland, of Maryland. It was noted that none of the patriots were Yankees.
Mayor Ralph Kuda, Jr., brought a welcome message to the group. Missouri State C.A.R. President Emma Guenther brought a welcome. Susanna Randolph Chapter Regent Mrs. Muriel Beshears brought greetings from the sponsoring chapter for the Grand Prairie Society.
She showed a picture of Susanna Randolph who lived in Virginia from 1692 – 1754 and had been an ancestor of the founding regent of the chapter.
Senior President Mr. Ken Hofer presented a gavel to President Alec Adam for the Grand Prairie Society.
He also announced that the next meeting would be Sunday, October 9, 2 p.m. at the Brinkman Hall of the Vandalia First Presbyterian Church. Chaplain Taryn Adam gave the benediction and President Alec Adam adjourned the meeting.
Refreshments of cake, cookies and punch were served in the Brinkman Hall downstairs. Mrs. Shera Dameron and Mrs. Beth Motley had prepared the refreshments along with Mrs. Jen Adam providing favor bags of patriotic wrapped candies for all the members present.
