The future of Van-Far baseball on the high school level is looking bright as Vandalia’s Gamecocks, a Juvenile Baseball Division team, has currently won 18 games in a row.
The Khoury League team is under the direction of head coach Nolan Gilley and assistant coaches Cody Gilley, A.J. Hopke, and Clay Stuart.
Since May 24, the team has won six games to open the 2012 season.
In their first game, the Gamecocks defeated Bowling Green (Niemeyer) 12-5. Wyatt McDowell earned the victory after tossing four innings and striking out six. Lucas Robinson picked up the save after tossing one inning and striking out three.
On June 1, the Gamecocks defeated Bowling Green (Luebrecht) 19-9 as McDowell struck out six in four innings.
Robinson went 4-for-4 with three RBIs and three runs scored. Austin Speagle had two hits, two RBIs, and one run scored while McDowell drew three walks, added one RBI, and had four runs scored.
The Gamecocks won game three 13-4 over Louisiana Rule as McDowell picked up his third victory and Robinson earned his second save.
Trey Hull led the team on offense by going 3-for-3 with four RBIs and three runs scored. He also had a ground rule double.
On June 5, the Gamecocks defeated Bowling Green (Kingsley) 6-0.
Robinson struck out five in the win and Nick Barnes picked up the save with four strikeouts.
Jake Stuart had two RBIs and two runs scored.
One night later, the Gamecocks crushed Bowling Green (Luebrecht) 26-5. Robinson earned the victory on the mound and had six strikeouts.
Klayton Haddock had four hits, four RBIs, and four runs scored. Hull hit a home run over the fence and went 4-for-5 with six RBIs and five runs scored.
On June 8, the Gamecocks held off Louisiana Rule 20-14. McDowell earned the victory on the mound and had four strikeouts. Jake Stuart had a bases clearing triple in the extra inning. He had two hits, four RBIs, and three runs scored.
Brenden Flowers added two hits, two runs scored, and two RBIs.
