Flu Mist available to kids

Posted on Monday, December 30, 2013 at 1:26 am

The Flu Mist will be available to school age children at no charge at the Audrain County Health Department (ACHD), 1130 South Elmwood in Mexico from 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m.
This Flu Mist Vaccine can only be given to healthy kindergartners through 18 year olds, who do not have asthma and meet the requirements to receive the vaccine. A screening tool will need to be completed during the appointment and prior to receiving the Flu Mist.
This vaccine was received by ACHD from two funding sources: the State of MO specifically for school age children with private health insurance, and VFC (Vaccines for Children) for school age children who have MO Health Net, MC+ health insurance (MOCares, Health Care USA, and Home State Health Plan) or who are uninsured or who are Alaskan Native or Native Americans. The VFC Flu Mist requires ACHD to bill MO Health Net and MC+ companies, so bring insurance cards if this applies to your child.
Audrain County Health Department continues to have influenza injections for all other people over the age of six months.
There is a $25 charge for each of the Inactivated Flu Vaccine injection (shot). ACHD can bill the following insurance Healthlink, Anthem BC/BS, Medicare, MO Health Net, Home Care Health Plan, MOCares, and Health Care USA.
At this time, there have been two reported cases of Influenza in Audrain County, and the state of Missouri has seen sporadic cases of Influenza. If you have not received the Influenza vaccine, now is the time to do so. It takes about two weeks to receive full immunity from the vaccination.
