First Baptist recognizes AWANA students

AWANA students recognized at First Baptist Church in Vandalia.

The AWANA recognition night was held Sunday, April 24 at First Baptist Church, in Vandalia. Children age 3rd-6th grade were recognized for their accomplishments in AWANA this year.
The AWANA (Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed) Club meets each Sunday evening, September through April.
They focus on memorizing scripture, understanding, and applying the Bible, and playing games. All children are welcome in AWANA, regardless of church affiliation.
Preschoolers recognized for their participation in Cubbies this year were Raine Dickerman, Elly Fagan, Ella Henry, Ethan Henry, Peyton Ingram, Silas Jacyna, Caleb Montgomery, Ryder Reading, Slayde Teague, Kalina Tate, and Ginny Weedman.
Kindergarten-2nd graders received awards for their work in Sparks. In order to complete handbooks, students memorize scripture, learn the books of the Bible, pray for and write to missionaries, and practice positive behavior at home.
Toby Ard, Carson Eckhoff, and Pacey Reading received the Sparky Award for completing all three handbooks during the last three year. Other members recognized for completing books were Elaina Brogden, Jonah Edmond, Josiah Edmond, Ebony Fraction, Faith Griffith, Bryn Jacyna, Kenya Jones, Bryce Reading, Skylie Salmon, Emily Smith, Taelyn Ward, and Traci Wehmeier.
Also receiving certificates were Nehemiah Bridges, Cameron Delozier, L.J. Hek, Bella Hopkins, Ashlyn Marshall, Alexis Robar, Trinity Skwirtz, and Aubri Stinnett.
The 3rd-6th graders in T&T (Truth and Training) were also recognized for their accomplishments. The Timothy Award was given to 6th graders who had completed all four handbooks.
This required memorizing over 450 verses of scripture, as well as other work. Receiving this honor were Callie Bailey, Lily Boushard, Ennis Childs, and Quinter Jacyna. Other members completing books this year were Clara Bailey, Erin Childs, Ainsley Jacyna, Gabry Jacyna, Katelyn Pargeon, Sophia Rost, Grace Smith, Kaylynne Wallace, and Reeve Woodall.
Certificates were awarded to Adyson Caldwell, Alexis Caldwell, Tyrece Cole, McKenna Engh-Hoffman, Zyah Griffith, Maddie Hopkins, Madilyn Ingram, Taylor Ingram, Miranda Niffen, Waylon Niffen, Destiny Robar, Paige Stuart, Kateyln Sutton, Bryleigh Teague, and Wesley Wehmeier.
