Filing period opened but could be moved to March

At this time filing for the August 7, 2012 Primary election opens at 8 a.m. Tuesday, February 28, 2008 and ends at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, March 27, 2012. However there is currently pending legislation in both the House and Senate which would change the filing period to open March 27, 2012 and close April 24, 2012.
The County Clerk’s Office has been notified by the Secretary of State’s office that a final decision on this issue may not be made until Monday afternoon
This is obviously too late to notify potential candidates. Unless a decision is made prior, candidates who plan to file on the first day should plan to do so on February 28.
Candidates for county office file with  the office of County Clerk located on the first floor of the Audrain County Courthouse, 101 N. Jefferson.
We want to get everyone filed as quickly as possible, but most of all we want to be sure the filing process is handled fairly for all candidates and ensure the integrity of the process.
Candidates filing on the first day with the County Clerk’s Office will draw a number to determine the order of their name will appear on the August 7 primary ballot. After the first day, candidates will be placed on the ballot in the order they file.
Candidates will need the following documents for riling:
• Paid receipt from political party for filing fee ($50 for county office). The County Clerk’s staff will accept the filing fee if not pre paid.
• Proof of Identity-Voter Notification card, Missouri driver’s license, birth certificate or other form of certified or photo ID.
• A copy of an affidavit filed with the Department of Revenue affirming that the candidate is not currently aware of any delinquency in filing or payment of any state income taxes, personal property taxes, real property taxes on the place of residence, as stated on the declaration of candidacy, or is not a past or present corporate officer of any fee office that owes any taxes to the state, other than those taxes which may be in dispute. Forms may be obtained from the Department of Revenue of online @ The County Clerk’s office will also have these forms available. The candidate’s signature on this form must be notarized. There is a notary public in the County Clerk’s office.
