Faith Tabernacle COGIC, 907 West Home, in Vandalia, Celebrated their 50 Year Anniversary on Friday-Sunday (October 28-30). Pastor Richard Smith has been pastoring there for 50 years. In fact, Pastor Smith and his late wife Delores Smith founded the church.
Pastor and Mrs. Smith moved to Vandalia from Des Moines, Iowa and opened the doors the second Sunday of July 1966 on the corner of Home and Central Streets.
The theme of the weekend was “Continuing the Journey.”
The Friday night service was dedicated to those who have gone on before and a memory plaque was presented. Saturday Services included Speaker Bishop Frank Douglas, Jurisdictional Bishop of Western Mo. Churches of God in Christ. Sunday Services concluded with guest speaker Elder Frank McQuay, of Davenport, Iowa. Many of the first choir members reunited for the occasion and sang together. What a wonderful occasion this proved to be!
