Evelyn Rosalie Weilmuenster, 82, died Tuesday, November 26, 2013 at her home on the family farm south of Vandalia, with her family by her side, after a brief, but courageous battle with cancer.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 30 at the Myers Funeral Home in Middletown. The Rev. Bob Hoehn officiated.
Burial was in Fairmount Cemetery, in Middletown, Mo. Serving as pallbearers were Michael Hopke, Michael Rogers, Jarrett Pienta, Jon Witte, Aaron Witte, and Brian Boeckelman. Honorary pallbearers were Bill Hopke, Alex Pienta, Noah Witte, Herb Schnitker, Daryl Cobb, Charlie Bartison, Merle Culwell, and Jeff Hopke.
As per Evelyn’s wishes, there will be no public visitation.
Mrs. Weilmuenster was born March 19, 1931, in Wellsville, Mo., a daughter of Fredrick Gottlieb and Hilda Lena Emma Blaue Boeckelman.
She was a 1949 graduate of Wellsville High Schoool. She worked at Blattner’s store in Wellsville after graduating from high school and until her marriage.
She married the love of her life, David Weilmuenster, on March 7, 1951 in Fort Sill, Okla. He preceded her in death on June 19, 1998.
Mrs. Weilmuenster spent her life on the family farm assisting David with the farming operation until his death. She loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and delighted in making quilts and embroidering pillow cases and quilt blocks.
There was never a time that the grandchildren came to visit that she didn’t have cookies for them.
Mrs. Weilmuenster loved to garden. She collected salt and pepper shakers and enjoyed going to garage sales. Mrs. Weilmuenster was known and loved for her generosity and her ability to make everyone welcome in her home.
Mrs. Weilmuenster is survived by her children, Ruth Ann Foree (Dennis), of Farber; Linda Fay Witte (Terry), of Vandalia; and Bruce David Weilmuenster, of Vandalia; grandchildren, Bill Hopke (Joy); Mike Hopke (Felicia); Jessica Rogers (Michael); Jamie Pienta (Jarrett); Jon Witte (Carolyn) and Aaron Witte (Kacie); great-grandchildren, Alex Pienta and Noah Witte.
Mrs. Weilmuenster is also survived by her siblings, Henry Boeckelman, Irene Kalmbach, Joyce Pilliard (Dick) and Leroy Boeckelman (Jayne); brother-in-law, Howard Weilmuenster and sisters-in-law, Alma Weilmuenster and Peggy Wright; in addition to numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Preceding Mrs. Weilmuenster in death were her husband, David Weilmuenster; parents, Fred and Hilda Boeckelman; great-granddaughter, Alexis Hopke; sister-in-law, Viola Boeckelman; brothers-in-law, Marvin Kalmbach and Raymond Wright and nieces and nephews, Curtis Boeckelman, Dale, Janet (Boeckelman) and William Letterman, Martha (Pilliard) McDowell and Larry Crain. Memorial contributions are suggested to Audrain County Home Health and Hospice c/o Myers Funeral Home, 203 East Bates Street, Wellsville, Mo. 63384.
