Motley, Keller win in Van-Far School Board race

There were several big winners on election night Tuesday, April 5 as voters took to the polls in the Audrain County area.
Kevin Motley (262 votes) and Dana Keller (238 votes) were elected to the Van-Far R-I School Board. Incumbent Christy Nelson was third with 215 votes and Penny Jennings-Copelin had 177 votes. Motley received 235 of his votes in Audrain County. He also won the Pike County vote with 13. Nelson won Ralls County support with 19 votes.
In the City of Vandalia Ward II race, Janet Turner defeated incumbent Larry Holt 29-21 to win that seat. Mayor Ralph Kuda, new Ward I alderman Doug Bontz, and Ward III alderman John Weiser won their unopposed races.
City of Laddonia
In the City of Laddonia’s alderman race for two positions, Gary Garnett (96 votes) and Carl Donaldson (61 votes) won on election night.
Former alderman Ono Monachino was third (33), Matt Jensen fourth (32), Francis Hunn fifth (20), and incumbent Jack Folta (5) took sixth.
Proposition 2
In Audrain County, voters passed the 1/4 cent sales tax for structures less than 20’ 1,453 (Yes) to 1,082 (No).
The 1/4 cent sales tax will go for a period of five years due to a need of repairing or replacing small bridges and large culverts throughout the county.
Proposition 1
Voters in several county, city, and districts voted to keep sales tax collection procedures the way they were in all races with the item on the ballot in Audrain County.
“No” votes won for Audrain County (1,745-786), Audrain County Emergency 9-1-1 (1,728-803), Van-Far Ambulance District (293-121), Audrain Ambulance District (1,280-680), City of Mexico (846-410), City of Vandalia (179-59), City of Martinsburg (17-2), and Village of Vandiver (19-1).
Miscellaneous
In other notable results in Audrain County, the Van-Far Special Road District measure passed, 221-121.
The Mexico School District’s No. 59 Prop Kids had 1,033 “Yes” votes to 717 “No” votes. The district’s Proposition 3 had 977 “No” votes to 794 “Yes” votes.
Frank Winn, Lois Hays, and Diana Holguin each received five votes in the City of Benton City Trustee race with three spots needing filled.
There were several write-in candidates for races in Van-Far Ambulance District 4, Curryville, and the Village of Rush Hill. No names were available at press time.
Lowell Jackson beat Tony Smallwood 530-404 in the Ralls County 9-1-1 board member race.
In the Pike County Home, Health, and Hospice Board race, Joyce Megown (1,129), Marla Reid (1,010), and Rosie Lewis (935) won the three spots. Elisha Koenig was fourth with 865 votes.
James Arico and Brian Scherder won the Bowling Green School Board race.
Paula Adams beat Donald Bryson 52-12 in the Ward II Wellsville race.
In Perry, Kim Long won the Ward II race 40-14 over James McIntire.
Marvin Miller won the New London mayoral race 100-21 over Kenneth O’Malley.
In the Water Director race for Public Water Supply District No. 1 of Pike County, Richard Oberdahlhoff won with 412 votes, beating Earl Niemeyer at 355 votes.
In Jonesburg, Robert Sellenriek won the mayoral race 58-11 over Dennis Howard.
In Middletown, both Julia Fleming and Georgia Scarborough won unopposed alderman races.
In the City of Bellflower, Dale Harrison beat John Barry 8-2 in the Ward II race.
In New Florence for Ward II, Adrian Heichelbech beat Donnie Nelson 41-25.

OFFICIAL TOTALS WITH ALL COUNTIES REPORTING: Kevin Motley received 261 votes and Dana Keller received 238 votes as the two earned won the Van-Far School Board race. Incumbent Christy Nelson was third at 214 and Penny Jennings-Copelin was fourth at 177.

Alderman races:
In the City of Laddonia, Gary Garnett had 96 votes and Carl Donaldson got 61 votes as the two won the alderman race. Ono Monachion was third (33), Matt Jensen fourth (32), Francis Hunn fifth (20), and incumbent Jack Folta in sixth with five votes.
In Vandalia, Janet Turner beat Larry Holt 29-21 in the Ward II Alderman race.
