Edna Mae (Smith) Bailey, age 101, of Vandalia, passed away at 11:10 p.m. on Tuesday, November 29, 2011 at Tri-County Care Center in Vandalia, Mo.
Visitation was scheduled from 1 p.m. until service time at Waters Funeral Chapel.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, December 2, 2011 at Waters Funeral Chapel in Vandalia with Rev. Justin Franke officiating. Bailey was born December 5, 1909 in rural Ralls County, Missouri the daughter of Clay C. and Mabel (Wasson) Smith. She was married to Walter C. Bailey on January 7, 1930; he preceded her in death in 1972.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Walter, and one brother Clyde Smith.
Edna Mae attended Ralls County schools and worked on the family’s farm until her marriage to Walter in 1930. Edna Mae then continued helping her husband on their farm and raising their family.
She was a member of the Farber Christian Church, an active member of the Farber Kitchen Band, which consisted of funnels, hoses, washtubs, and numerous kitchen utensils.
The band went to many nursing homes to entertain the residents with their special music. Edna Mae enjoyed collecting memorabilia; she was a gifted seamstress, and a member of the local 4-H member.
Survivors include one son, C. Leon Baily, PhD of Chicago where he teaches at Roosevelt College; one daughter, Vernelle and husband Calvin Hull of Farber, Mo.; four grandchildren, Zachary, Dylan, and Kari Bailey all of the Chicago area; Diane Branstetter and husband Russel Branstetter of Lone Jack, Mo.; two great-grandchildren, Rachel Branstetter of Ozark, Mo. and Tyler Branstetter of Springfield, Mo.; also survived by special friend and roommate since 2003, Pauline McCurdy.
Interment was in the Evergreen Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Vandalia. Pallbearers were Zachary Bailey, Dylan Bailey, Kari Bailey, P.A. Hull, Richard Dodd, and Russell Branstetter.
