Services for Durward Burdette, Johnson, Jr., 77, of Vandalia, were held at 10 a.m. Monday, May 4, 2015 at Bienhoff Funeral Home in Perry.
Burial took place in the Vandalia Cemetery with military honors provided by Laddonia American Legion Post No. 510.
Visitation was held on Sunday evening from 4-6 p.m. at Bienhoff Funeral Home in Perry.
Mr. Johnson passed away at 11:25 p.m., May 1, 2015 at his home.
He was born December 24, 1937 in Vandalia, the son of Durward Burdette and Lillie Margaret Whelan Johnson, Sr.
He was married to Linda Deichman on June 9, 1962 in Reno, Nevada, and she survives.
Other survivors include one daughter and her husband, Sherry and David Phillips, of Vandalia; and three grandchildren, Aaryn Phillips, Carleigh Phillips, and Makalyn Phillips, all of Vandalia; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one brother, George Johnson, and two sisters, LaMona Bontz and Velma Caldwell.
Mr. Johnson was a lifetime area resident and was Christian by faith. He worked as a laborer at Harbison-Walker for over 40 years before his retirement.
He was a lifetime member of the Vandalia VFW Post No. 2173 and the Laddonia American Legion Post No. 510.
He enjoyed gardening, helping others and spending time with his family.
Pallbearers were Bruce Johnson, Dennis Johnson, Daryl Jennings, Darren Jennings, Charles Stroker, and Kyle Campbell. Honorary pallbearers were Richard Caldwell, Kenneth Caldwell, Jerry Caldwell, Robert Caldwell, Stephen Bontz, Milton Deichman, Stanley James, and Tom Thurman.
