July 2013 marked the first graduating class of students to receive their Doctor of Nursing Practice Degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia.
Dr. Connie Dunn graduated July 18 with her doctorate degree after presenting her capstone project “Retrospective chart review of glycemic control of patients with Type 2 Diabetes in a rural health clinic.”
This was the completion of three years didactic work and more than 1,000 clinical hours with different specialty practices.
Her doctoral degree offered clinical experiences in diabetes treatment and management, internal medicine, acute care, and gastroenterology.
The Doctor of Nursing Practice degree brings parity with other health care professions such as audiology, dentistry, medicine, pharmacy, physical therapy and psychology that have established a practice doctorate as the standard entry into practice.
Dr. Dunn is a member of Sigma Theta Tau Nursing Honor Society and the University of Missouri Honor Society.
She currently practices at AMC’s Mexico Health Services in Mexico, which is a member of SSM Health Care.
