Dr. Keith D. Swan, age 96, of Vandalia, died Saturday, Nov. 16, 2013 at Tri-County Nursing Home in Vandalia.
Funeral services were held Thursday at 10 a.m. at Arnold Funeral Home in Mexico with burial in East Lawn Memorial Park.   Visitation was Wednesday evening from 5-7 at the funeral home.
Doc was born on March 31, 1917 in Williamston, Mich., the son of Roy and Blanche (Barritt) Swan.  He married Norma Fay Powell on Sept. 25, 1945 in Mexico.  She preceded him in death in 2003.
He was a Doctor of Osteopathy, having graduated from Kirksville Osteopathic School of Medicine.  He was a lifetime member of the American Osteopathy Association.  He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Vandalia and had previously belonged to the Lions Club and been active in the county fairs.  He enjoyed woodworking, raising cattle and riding his Tennessee Walkers.
Survivors include three children, Beverly Reed and husband James of Canyon, Texas; Denna Nichols and husband Gary, of Vandalia; and Stephen Swan of Hartsburg, Mo.  He is also survived by his grandchildren; Patricia (Nichols) Wickey and husband Scott, of Union, Mo.; David Nichols, of Vandalia; Daniel Nichols and wife Kylie, of Mexico; Pamela Nichols, of Vandalia; Mathew and Nathan Swan, of Hartsburg; and two great-grandchildren Ember Nichols and Danielle Wickey.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his twin brother Kenneth Swan.
Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church in Vandalia, American Cancer Society or the A.M.C. Auxiliary.
