By Ron Schott/The Vandalia Leader
It’s hard to believe but it is officially the Christmas season. Many of us spent quality time with our families during Thanksgiving last week and some brave shoppers took on Black Friday and braved chilly conditions during Hometown Christmas in Vandalia to get a head start on their shopping list.
While many of our readers already have plans to shop at certain stores this season, I do want to remind readers to not forget about the businesses in the Vandalia area and Audrain County.
Though many might think they are saving money by traveling outside of the area to other counties to take advantage of special offers, in many situations, by time you add up fuel costs with meal costs, the savings turn your purchase from a great deal to possibly a complete loss of savings. Many Vandalia businesses will be featuring their specials in this week’s and future Vandalia Leader issues as well as on our website.
In many cases, our area merchants serve on volunteer organizations, serve as volunteer firefighters, and support school districts and other important benefit events and activities that take place all year long.
This is a great time of the year to give back and say “Thank You” to these merchants by knocking off items from your Christmas list through shopping at their busineses.
Annual Christmas Drawings
The paper work is going out this week to Van-Far Elementary School for students to work on their annual Christmas Drawings to be published through sponsorships in our Christmas edition.
This is the same issue where we’ll print Letters to Santa.
As always, these sponsorships get reserved pretty fast. Call Jonathan at 573-594-2222.
Exciting Things Ahead
The Vandalia Leader has a couple of exciting things on its slate for the month of December that Vandalia area businesses will want to be a part of. We are currently producing our second annual calendar, this time for 2012.
It will feature another assortment of nostalgic ads to take our readers down memory lane. It will also feature a few random scanned photos from the past. Spots are expected to go pretty fast so I encourage all Vandalia area businesses interested in advertising in the calendar to reserve their spots today by calling 573-594-2222.
In the next couple of weeks we will also be unveiling a new website that provides advertisers several opportunities to reach potential customers.
If my Sales Representative Jonathan Nutt or I have yet to talk to you about these opportunities or you would like to know more, please call us at 573-594-2222 and we’ll be sure to quickly meet with you.
I’m using my editorial space because I know many advertisers read my column each week. I am so excited for the plans in place and I don’t want any of our advertisers to miss out. Please call us today!
