The City of Vandalia’s Board of Aldermen have officially hired Darren Berry as the town’s newest City Administrator.
Aldermen came out of an Executive Session meeting last Tuesday and made public their unanimous decision after they reconvened into regular session.
The board made their decision after their search involved advertising the position statewide and regionally.
Berry is a lifelong resident of the area and has been involved in the community in various activities for most of his life.
He’s been employed by the city since 2002. Berry began his career as a Water Plant Operator before becoming the Chief Water Plant Operator.
Berry has also been a safety coordinator, vehicle rotation coordinator, and most recently, the deputy city administrator.
“Darren knows the Vandalia community, knows the city organization, and understands the city administrator,” said Mayor Pro Tem John Weiser. “His commitment is unquestionable, experience clearly evident, and leadership abilities proven. We are happy to have him.”
Berry began his duties on Thursday, September 21 and has a salary of $62,000.
“I am excited to accept the role of City Administrator,” he said. “I just love Vandalia and am happy to have the chance to be of service. I know we have a lot of work to do and I’m looking forward to the challenge.”
