On October 6, the Susanna Randolph Chapter DAR meeting was brought to order by Muriel Beshears at 6 p.m. in the Vandalia Historical Society Building.
At this meeting a roll call was started with members giving a Politician of the 1917. All members present recited the opening rituals.
Joy Davis presented the President General’s message and the Constitution Minute. Ann Carter gave the National Defense report. Elaine Dameron gave the Indian Minute. The Conservation Minute was given by Brenda Gower and the School Minute was presented by Gayle Jones. Vicki Wright and Brenda Gower were the hostesses for the meeting. A Recording Secretary report was given by Paula James. Corresponding Secretary Carolyn Ball read thank you notes received from Katie Elzea and Taryn Adam for the essay contest winners.
The Treasurer’s report was given by Teresa Wenzel. She reported a beginning balance of $1,239.89 with receipts of $3,870 for the past month. Disbursements totaled $574.47 leaving a balance of $4,435.42 in the checking account. The saving accounts total balance was $1,355.66 and there are Certificates of Deposit totaling $4,500. This gives the total assets of $10291.08 for the chapter.
Historian Crystal McCurdy gave a report. Registrar Ruth Miller reported that as of right now, we are the biggest chapter. Teresa Wenzel gave a report on Family Night scheduled for November 3. Cost for attending is $10 each and names of those attending must be known by October 18. It will be a Turkey Dinner catered by County Cupboard at St. Pats Hall.
Vicki Wright brought us up to date on the chapter’s “Quilt of Valor.” The WERDCC Restorate Justice women have all the materials and provided an expected finish date of January 17.
The Centennial Committee reported that there will be a Tea on February 17 from 2-4 p.m. A motion was made by Joy Davis and seconded by Carolyn Ball to pay the $45 for the Grand Vandalia Hotel was passed.
Joy Davis reminded everyone that the next CAR re-organization meeting is Sunday, October 9 at 2 p.m.
Regent Muriel Beshears discussed the Northeast District Meeting in Madison with five Susanna Randolph Chapters members attending. Under unfinished business, Carolyn Ball discussed the plaque for the Lincoln School dedication. The plaque for the flag pole is ready. No date has been set.
There was no new business to discuss. The meeting ended with the closing ritual. The next meeting will be on November 3 .
