Dairy Queen owners in Vandalia have been providing customers with delicious food for 35 years. Aside from the food, DQ has always provided a family atmosphere. Part of the reason for that is it being a family owned and operated business. Owners Frank and Marcella Bauman also own Dairy Queen Grill and Chill restaurants in Bowling Green and Jefferson City. The Baumans bought the Vandalia Dairy Queen in April of 1978.
“With 35 years is a lot of employees. We have watched a lot of our kids, that were kids when they started, that have matured and went on to be teachers, doctors, and lawyers. We just had a lot of great kids work for us plus adults. It’s been rewarding to watch these kids have their first job, and then go on to be successful adults. Some have come back and thanked us for the things they learned here. The most common thing is how to clean,” said Marcella Bauman.
