On September 1, the Susanna Randolph Chapter DAR meeting was brought to order by Muriel Beshears at 6 p.m. in the Vandalia Historical Society Building.
All members present recited the opening rituals. Joy Davis presented the President Generals message, the National Defense report, and the Constitution Minute. Judy Flowers gave the Indian Minute. The Conservation Minute was given by Brenda Gower. The School Minute presented by Gayle Jones. Linda Sue Galloway and Ann Kohl were the hostesses for the meeting.
There was no report from the recording secretary. Correspondence Secretary Carolyn Ball read a “Thank You” note received from Marissa Cox for her scholarship. The Treasurer’s report was given by Teresa Wenzel.
Historian Crystal McCurdy gave a report. Registrar Ruth Miller reported that there are two new members approved. The scholarship committee reported that the scholarship for Klayton Haddock had been returned and suggested the scholarship money be given to Marissa Cox. A motion was made to that affect, seconded, and passed.
Unfinished business presented by Muriel Beshears about the Lincoln School dedication and the plaque for the flag pole. No date has been set.
Under new business, Muriel Beshears started discussion about participating in “Quilts of Valor.” Vicky Wright explained what was needed. A motion was made Joy Davis to donate material and Vicky Wright would choose a pattern and pick up the fabric. Carolyn Ball seconded the motion. How it would be paid for has yet to be decided.
Discussion about Constitution Week (September 17-23) was held with Joy Davis being in charge of what is happening at the school.
A meeting date of September 18 has been set for the next CAR meeting at the First Presbyterian Church. Joy Davis made a motion to give $50 to the CAR Chapter to help get them started. The motion passed.
Discussion was held on the 100th Anniversary of Susannah Randolph Chapter. The date is February 18, but the group is unsure of when we want to celebrate it. A committee made of Gayle Jones, Joy Davis, Ruth Miller, and Jennifer Adam will make the decisions necessary for a good celebration.
Carolyn Ball suggested that around the beginning of the year, we gather school supplies to take to the school to help out the teachers for the second semester. The meeting ended with the closing ritual.
The next meeting will be October 6.
