In the past few seasons, the Community R-VI Lady Trojans and Sturgeon Lady Bulldogs have played a few competitive games against one another.
In last week’s home opener, the Lady Trojans dominated Sturgeon by holding them to under 10 points in three of the four quarters for a 49-31 victory.
The Lady Trojans set the tone by taking a 17-9 lead in the first quarter and never looked back in the 18-point victory.
Freshman Alissa Curtis dominated in the paint and was just two blocks away from a rare triple-double.
She finished the game with 19 points, 20 rebounds, and eight blocks.
“Freshman standout Alissa Curtis was fantastic tonight…,” said Community R-VI head girls basketball coach Bob Curtis. “She has been a monster in our first two games on the boards and blocking shots at the rim.”
All-State player Samm Jett scored 16 points. Danielle Brooks had 10 points and six assists.
Senior Sam Jackson was the team’s defensive stopper.
“She has been a big part of our success so far this year, holding double-digit scorers most nights to an average of six points a game when being covered by her,” Bob Curtis said.
