This Sunday features the final dinner service for The Country Cupboard Restaurant and Catering LLC in Vandalia.
Owner Marlene Fischer said due to situations beyond her control, the business will be closing at 2:30 p.m. as she retires from the industry after running the restaurant since September 2013. Dating back to previous ownership, Fischer has worked at the location since 1999.
She said the business is still for sale. A “For Sale” sign with a phone number will soon be placed outside the business.
The restaurant is fully furnished and has new air conditioners, furnace, dishwasher, stoves, deep fryers, along with tables and chairs.
“It’s a good investment,” she noted.
Fischer said she will miss the people she’s served.
“I’ll miss the people, is what I’ll miss the most,” she said. “As the sign says on the front door, thanks for the patronage and friendship for the last four years. We’ve enjoyed serving you and making friends.”
Fischer noted that at one time her restaurant employed up to 22 full-time and part-time employees. Currently, they have just five faithful employees working until the doors close.
“Thanks for your support and helping us make things work,” Fischer said of her employees.
She is also thankful for the help and support of her husband Barry and daughter Stephanie.
Their remaining hours include 10 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Wednesday, 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Thursday and Friday, then 10 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Saturday-Sunday.
