Several Community R-VI and Van-Far boys and girls basketball players participated in the EMO Senior Showcase held last Friday night at Mark Twain High School in Center.
The event began at 6 p.m. with the girls game between teams coached by Clopton’s Larry Lagemann (Team 1) and North Callaway’s Matt Miller (Team 2).
Team 2 led the game 33-21 at halftime before holding on for a 56-39 victory over Team 1.
Breanne Bixby, from Bowling Green, made four 3-pointers in the first half, and finished the game with a game-high 16 points.
Van-Far’s Breanna Strange helped the winning team as she scored two points.
Community R-VI’s Sam Jackson was chosen to play for Team 2 but she had no points in the box score.
Van-Far’s Abilene Gatson scored four points for Team 1. Clopton’s Lauren Lagemann led Gatson’s team with 11 points.
In between games, both Bowling Green players Lauren Sparks and Cory Buchanan won the annual 3-point contest.
The boys game followed but not before some of the players attempted to make some dunks to entertain the crowd.
Team 1, coached by Bowling Green’s Cary Bibb, jumped out to a 52-38 halftime lead before holding on late for an 87-68 victory. Team 2 was coached by Community R-VI’s Kenneth Jett.
Bowling Green’s Adam Holt led Team 1 with 14 points.
Team 2 was compiled mostly of Community R-VI and Van-Far players.
The Trojans’ Lane Thebeau scored 10 of his team-high 14 points in the first half.
His brother Clay Thebeau made two 3-pointers and finished the game with 12 points.
Community R-VI’s Conner Brooks scored all six of his points in the second half.
Brandon Ahrens was selected but was credited with no points.
The Trojans’ Kyle Curtis was selected but did not participate.
Van-Far’s Lucas Robinson scored two points in the loss.
