Community R-VI sets tax rate at meeting

The Community R-VI School Board approved their tax rate after a Tax Rate Hearing two weeks ago. The board decided to set the operating levy at 3.9986 and debt service levy at .55 for a total 4.5486.
According to meeting minutes, Superintendent Cheryl Mack reviewed the preliminary ASBR and the Transportation Maintenance Report with the Board. She discussed future MAP and EOC testing and shared that students in 3rd-12th grade will be attending the Megan Meier assembly at Van-Far on August 25. Superintendent Mack also shared that the kitchen is using some of their money from the “Dollars for Dairy Grant” to purchase a cam cart. This will allow food to be portable and remain at the correct hot or cold temperature.
Community R-VI School Elementary Principal Tammy Angel shared that elementary summer school attendance ended with 92 students in June and that was an increase of 30 students compared to last year. MAP test scores were reviewed with the Board. She said the elementary is off to a fantastic start for the 2015-2016 school year.
Community R-VI Secondary Principal Bob Curtis shared that last week, the Community R-VI FFA Chapter was chosen as the FFA of the Week on the RFD channel. Enrollment for the high school is at 109 students and 60 students for middle school. He also reviewed EOC test scores with the Board.
The board voted to approve the agenda, consent items, and to pay the July and August 2015 bills.
During presentations, Andrew Fairchild read a thank you note from CTA. Mrs. Jaccarino shared with the board that Community R-VI is the recipient of a $10,000 grant from Monsanto. This grant will be used for an elementary science lab, an outdoor classroom and any other technology needs the elementary may have. Mrs. Jaccarino also updated the board on the technology department.
The board voted to adopt Policies 1520, 3155, 3165, 3440, 4831 and Policy and Regulation 3440.
The board voted to adopt a Breakfast and Lunch Charge Policy. Students with a negative balance of $12 will be served a cheese or peanut butter sandwich with milk until the balance is paid.
The board voted to amend contracts to those who completed additional education classes.
The board also voted to amend the budget.
The board voted to extend the house lease with Head Start for one year.
The board voted to approve and pay ½ the salary of the Head Start contract for a teacher assistant.
The board voted to approve the occupational therapy contract with Sara Schafer. Lastly, the Board voted to hire Bronc Woodruff as a paraprofessional with coaching duties.
