Community R-VI’s “Sweet Taste of Victory” themed Courtwarming 2013 came to a close, February 8, with the varsity boys basketball squad’s dominating 64-42 victory over Silex Friday night.
Held throughout the school week, the ceremony included spirit days, hall decorations, banner and poster competitions, float building, a cake competition, and a Friday afternoon assembly.
The student body joined in dress up days to earn spirit points. Monday was “Skittles Day” with seniors dressing in red, the juniors in blue, the sophomores in green, and the freshmen wearing orange. Tuesday was “Prince and Princess Day.” Wednesday was “Nerds Day” with Thursday as “Make me Snicker Day” and Friday dubbed “Spirit Day.”
Students dawned the halls with spirit posters and the gym with banners on Wednesday. The best overall poster design went to the seniors. The best senior poster went to the designers of the “Trojans are Life Savers” poster; the best juniors poster incorporated a “Pez” dispenser; the best sophomore poster maintained the “Skittles” theme; and “King Candy” won best in class for the freshman.
For the best class wall, the juniors won first place with the freshman taking second. The seniors followed in third place and the sophomores finished last.
The best float went to the freshman class, the seniors placed second, the juniors took third with the sophomores taking fourth.
The freshman class made the winning cake followed by the juniors with the sophomores taking third and the seniors placing fourth.
The senior class regained the lead, placing first in the banner competition; the juniors took second; freshmen, third; and sophomores, fourth.
During the assembly, the student body held a variety of competitions, including an “Airband/ Skit,” “Powder-puff Cheerleading,” and class game competitions. Overall, the senior class dominated competition, winning the coveted “Spirit Shield.”
Junior Kaleb Harris and Senior Julie Hale were named Community R-VI’s Courtwarming King and Queen.

Danielle Brooks, freshman, the daughter of Daniel and Amy Brooks, and Anthony Fairchild, freshman, the son of Andrew and Faye Fairchild; Samantha Jackson, sophomore, the daughter of Matthew and Tricia Jackson, and Kyle Curtis, sophomore, the son of Mark and Gretchen Curtis; Paige Curtis, senior, the daughter of Mark and Gretchen Curtis, and Lance Gibson, senior, the son of Mike Gibson and Lisa Householder.
Former Courtwarming King Ryan Weiberg and Queen Ashley Evans attended the coronation ceremony.
This year’s Crownbearer’s for the evening were Meya Steffen, the daughter of Jerry and April Steffen, and Drake Welch, the son of Jeremy Welch and Danielle Aulbur.
