Community R-VI hires a few personnel

Some new hirings were made in the Community R-VI School District during the Board of Education’s Executive Session held last Wednesday.
Those hired included Joyce Gastler as Central Office Secretary; Patrick Friga as ITV/ISS, head baseball coach, and assistant football coach; and Tyler Walton, Bus Mechanic. The extra duty assignment changes were also approved.
The agenda and May 17 minutes were also approved.
During the monthly board meeting, administrators gave their reports.
Superintendent Cheryl Mack reviewed the transportation data and shared that we will be recognized for 100% on bus inspections at the Missouri Association of Pupil Transportation.
She also noted that five students from Wellsville-Middletown will ride with the district students to Vo-Tech. They will be counted as pupil transportation. There was no update from OPAA! Food service Management at this time.
Elementary Principal Tammy Angel stated that elementary Summer School enrollment is 93 students and it’s going very well.
She said the students are enjoying their daily educational activities and participating in a new program, Reading at Community Elementary (R.A.C.E.). She also attended the Go Share Missouri Tech Expo last week with Superintendent Mack, Mrs. Ebers, and Mrs. Young.
Secondary Principal Bob Curtis shared that there are 64 students attending Summer School 6th-12th grade and it’s going great. The “How to Survive 6th Grade” class is going well with the incoming 6th graders.
New Business
The board unanimously voted to adopt the 2017-2018 Pre-School Sliding Scale.
Regulation 4230 was adopted.
The 2017-2018 handbooks were approved with recommended changes. The books include the Staff Handbook, Student Handbooks for MS/HS and Elementary, Transportation, and Extracurricular.
The June 2017 bills and the 2017-2018 budget were also items approved. The meeting agenda was also approved.
A Tax Rate Hearing has been set for 6 p.m. on Wednesday, August 16.

The surplus items includes several types of projectors, cassette players, VCR’s, several iPAD fourth generations, TV’s, globes, and more.
