The Community R-VI Trojans successfully battled through the distractions of Homecoming Week last Friday night and picked up a big 64-56 victory over Paris.
During the win, Cordell Hollensteiner also scored his 1,000th career point to help the Trojans improve their record to 6-9 overall.
“This was a good win for us,” said Community R-VI head coach Matt Thomas. “I was really proud of our guys in handling the distractions of Homecoming and the longer time between halves for the festivities. I thought we did a really good job of getting the ball inside and getting easy baskets early.”
The Trojans struggled early, finding themselves down three points at the end of the first quarter.
Community R-VI responded just before halftime as Hollensteinder nailed two 3-pointers and scored eight points.
Bobby Jett added eight points of his own in the quarter to help the Trojans take a two-point lead into halftime. In the third quarter, Jett’s two 3-pointers and Blaze Escamilla’s 3-pointer helped Community R-VI push their lead to seven.
Community R-VI then held on in a competitive fourth quarter to win the game by eight.
Jett scored a game-high 26 points in the victory.
Hollensteiner added 18 points; Eric Hombs scored seven points; Escamilla had six points; Evan Hartsock had five points; and Jaryn Kuda scored two points.
