The Community R-VI School Board voted to extend the contract of current Superintendent Cheryl Mack during their January 20 meeting last week.
According to meeting minutes, the board voted to extend the contract for 2016-2017 through 2017-2018. As for the school board, with board incumbents Rhonda Curtis and Terry Davenport filing by the election deadline, there will not be an election in the district in April.
Becky McCurdy and Stacy French shared the Monsanto video that was filmed at Community R-VI and presented information on the Vocational Enhancement Grant.
The two also noted the needs for their two programs. Business needs include 25 desktop computers totaling $28,625 at $825 per computer. French noted the needed upgrades with equipment in the Ag. Department.
“We appreciate our staff that worked on the grant,” said Superintendent Mack.
It was noted that several students had tears come to their eyes when they watched the video. One student said “wow, that’s the kind of school you see on TV and you want to go to.” The student was reminded that they go to that school.
Bonnie Wilson presented a new assessment program for kindergarten students.
Superintendent Mack stated that she is still taking comments and/or suggestions from staff for the 2016-2017 School Calendar. A final draft will be ready to vote on at the March board meeting.
