In recent years, the Sturgeon Bulldogs have been an area bench mark for boys basketball teams.
Community R-VI head coach Kenneth Jett knew his team would have their hands full in the home opener.
Fortunately, his team responded to the challenge.
They started the game on a 16-2 run and had to hold on late for a 68-60 victory.
Community R-VI led 32-24 at halftime and kept pace with 36 more points in the final two quarters for the victory.
Clay Thebeau scored a team-high 28 points. Conner Brooks had 15 points, Lane Thebeau scored 11, Anthony Fairchild had seven points, Brandon Arens scored four points, and Doug Davenport had three points.
The Trojans made 17-of-24 free throws in the victory.
