Community R-VI beats Louisiana

After being outscored 50-5 in three tough losses in one week, the Community R-VI Trojans’ baseball team found a way to hold off a late Louisiana charge to beat the Bulldogs, 10-9.
The Trojans appeared ready to pull away from the Bulldogs early after scoring seven runs in their first at-bat.
Both Landon Wright and Tim Hunn had two-RBI singles during the big inning.
Louisiana answered with a five run third inning before adding two more in the top of the fifth to tie the game.
The Trojans responded in their next at-bat with Evan Hartsock’s RBI double. Levi Rafferty added a sacrifice fly to give Community R-VI the 10-7 lead.
The Bulldogs scored two runs in their final at-bat with one out.
Fortunately, the Trojans were able to get a Louisiana runner out at home plate after a dropped third strike.
Rafferty then struck out a Louisiana batter on three swinging strikes to end the game.
Hartsock led the Trojans with three hits, two RBIs, and two runs scored while Wright had three hits, two RBIs, and one run scored.
Rafferty tallied two RBIs and two runs scored; Hunn had two RBIs and one run scored; both Hunter Houghton and Braedon Swaim had one RBI and one run scored; while Nathan Gastler and Klayton Bosworth scored one run.
Gastler tossed four innings on the mound and allowed seven earned runs on eight hits with four strikeouts and two walks. He also gave up two home runs.
Houghton tossed two and a third innings and gave up one earned run on three hits with two strikeouts.
Rafferty had two-thirds of an inning on the mound of shutout ball. He allowed one hit and struck out two.
Before the win, the Trojans lost 21-0 to a solid New Franklin program as the Bulldogs scored 12 runs in the top of the sixth inning.
Eric Hombs and Rafferty each had the Trojans’ lone hit in the loss. Hartsock drew two walks.
On the mound, Community R-VI pitchers allowed 19 walks. Hartsock allowed seven earned runs on five hits with seven strikeouts and eight walks. Justin Duenke tossed one inning and allowed four earned runs on one hit with three strikeouts and five walks.
Hunn gave up three earned runs and had three walks.
Swaim tossed one inning and gave up four earned runs on two hits with two strikeouts and three walks.
