Community R-VI baseball nearly rallies to beat Clopton

The Community R-VI Trojans baseball team scored just four runs in four recent games as their offensive struggles continue.
They were highlighted by being unable to score one run in the Community R-VI Tournament on Saturday.
The Trojans were shut out by Silex, 9-0, after allowing three runs in both the second and fifth innings.
Hunter Houghton, Avery Carline, and Levi Rafferty had the lone hits for the team.
Matt Gastler picked up the loss tossing four innings and allowing five earned runs on six hits with eight strikeouts and three walks. Houghton tossed one inning and allowed one earned runs and two hits.
In game two, the Trojans fell 8-0 to Sturgeon.
Sturgeon scored at least three runs in the second and fifth innings.
Community R-VI’s defense made four errors in the loss and seven through the two tournament games.
Cordell Hollensteiner and Carline had the lone Trojan hits in the loss.
Hollensteiner tossed three innings on the mound and allowed two earned runs on six hits with three strikeouts and one walk. Nathan Gastler tossed three innings and allowed two earned runs on two hits with two strikeouts and three walks.
Nearly rallied to beat
The Trojans almost completed a comeback against Clopton as they scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning but it was too late in a 6-4 loss.
Evan Hartsock drew a bases loaded walk to score Nathan Gastler for the first run.
Rafferty’s fielder’s choice plated Braedon Swaim for a second run.
Hollensteiner’s two-RBI triple scored Eric Hombs and Rafferty but the two-out rally came to an end with the bases loaded.
Hollensteiner finished with two hits and two RBIs; Rafferty had one RBI and one run scored; Hartsock had one RBI; while Swaim, Hombs, and Nathan Gastler each scored one run.
Matt Gastler had the loss after allowing five earned runs on nine hits with five strikeouts and one walk in 4 1/3 innings. Nathan Gastler tossed 2 2/3 innings and allowed no earned runs and one hit with four strikeouts and one walk.
Falling to Wellsville-Middletown
Against Wellsville-Middletown, the Tigers scored eight runs on nine hits to drop the Trojans, 8-0. Matt Gastler, Houghton, and Hollensteiner had the lone Trojans’ hits.
Hollensteiner picked up the loss on the mound after tossing six innings and allowing five earned runs on nine hits with four strikeouts and six walks.
