Vandalia High School Class of 1953 celebrates 60 year reunion.
The Class of 1953 of Vandalia High School gathered in Vandalia on April 26 and 27 to celebrate the 60th anniversary of their graduation. The group met at the Methodist Church on Friday night for a casual get-together and snacks, sharing photos, scrapbooks and memories of good times.
A buffet dinner was held at the Fire Brick on Saturday evening. Tables were covered with black cloths and gold napkins. The centerpieces were bowls with gold tipped flowers. Each graduate received a glass mug etched with a wreath enclosing the number 60, saying Vandalia High School, Class of 1953. There was a display of VHS yearbooks, photos, etc. Also on display was a quilt made by Valerie Pierceall Galloway and her mother in 1953 which had the names of the graduates in embroidery.
There were 44 graduates that year. Fourteen attended the reunion out of the 35 living classmates. Nine members of the class are deceased. Evelyn Gatson Evans gave a beautiful memorial for classmates who had passed away since the 50th reunion.
