The City of Vandalia held a swearing in ceremony for its incumbent officials during the monthly meeting held Tuesday, April 13 inside the Lange Building.
City Clerk Karen Shaw delivered the oath of office to elected officials Mayor Ramon Barnes, Ward I Teresa Wenzel, Ward II Larry Holt, and Ward III John Weiser.
Later in the meeting, Alderman Weiser was elected as Mayor Pro-Tem. Alderman Holt made the motion that was seconded by Alderman Ron Stallcup before it carried unanimously.
Weiser served as Mayor Pro-Tem last year.
Sewer Rate Increase
Aldermen approved a resolution to increase the Capital Surcharge Rate for the Sewer System from $.60 to $1.20 for system improvements beginning in July 2012.
The measure will generate approximately  $140,000 annually.
The I&I needs are expected to require all of this resource, leaving other known needs such as future lagoon dredging unfunded.
The proposed increase would cost the average househould (using 5,000 gallons) $3 per month.
