I pray everyone had as good a Christmas break as I had this past week.
For the first time in at least six or seven years, my wife and I were able to travel to Maryland to be with my family on Christmas Eve.
Every year, my grandparents host anywhere between 30-40 family members in my grandfather’s childhood home for a holiday reunion.
The schedule opened up just right this year for me to haul my family of six (that’s still hard to believe) in our minivan nearly 1,000 miles to Baltimore, Md.
While there we also visited my father and step-mother, Trapper Sam O’Keefe, and a countless list of others.
Our family enjoyed eating delicious Maryland blue crabs and crab cake sandwiches.
We finished the trip by taking pictures at both Oriole Park at Camden Yards (home of the Baltimore Orioles) and M&T Bank Stadium (home of the Baltimore Ravens.) Our family also took a tour of the Sports Legends Museum in Baltimore, Md.
Though this trip included many hospital visits and a lot of time spent on the road, we truly enjoyed the rest and relaxation.
There is nothing like being able to get away from work every now and again.
I encourage our readers to make sure they take some time in 2014 to travel outside of the area with their families.
It’s a great opportunity to create memories not soon to be forgotten.
Jeremy Lile’s departure
Just before our normal press deadline will be the final time our reporter Jeremy Lile will be with our staff.
Jeremy and his family are pursuing an opportunity near where their other family members live in Illinois.
I personally appreciate the time invested by Jeremy into our newspaper and community in his short time here in Vandalia.
He will be greatly missed. If you see him this week, be sure to wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors.
