Chapter CE P.E.O., Vandalia, hosted a salad luncheon and Bunco Games event at the St. John Lutheran Church on Tuesday, September 9. Registering the  60 guests was Shirley Morris, treasurer of Chapter CE.
An assortment of salads and hot crescent rolls for the luncheon were prepared by chapter members and served from a buffet table accented with pots of bronze mums. The Australian dessert, Pavlova, topped with strawberries and cream, was the dessert course.
Cindy Pirch, President of Chapter CE, welcomed those present and recognized Mila Lowry, Mexico, State Treasurer of the Philanthropic Educational Organization. Mrs. Lowry told the group P.E.O.’s objective is helping women with their education and announced the P.E.O. Educational Loan Fund Project, has now reduced its interest rate to two percent and urged those present to nominate women who need that assistance. Mrs. Pirch also recognized the committee planning the luncheon, Michelle Talbert, Chairman; Ann Kohl, Janie Zimmer, Loralee Adam, Carla Burnett, and Marcella Bauman. Assisting the committee were Elayne Gore, Sharon Lewton, Shirley Morris, Jean Barnes, Teresa Wenzel, and Muriel Beshears.
Marcella Bauman led the group in three games of Bunco. Mrs. Bauman used an article from “Woman’s Day” magazine citing a Bunco club in Columbia, Missouri that organized a group and related there is also one in Vandalia. At the conclusion of the games, prizes of potted bronze mums were awarded to the following: Natalie Gibson, Mary Orr, Shirley Morris, Jane Williams, Mila Lowry, and Donna Reading.
Chapter CE planned the luncheon fundraiser to support expenses as they prepare to celebrate 100 years as a chapter in 2015. The chapter will host a tea and reception for the community on Sunday, May 3, 2015 to celebrate the chapter’s 100th Anniversary. Also, the funds will aid the chapter’s attendance at the State P.E.O. Convention to be held in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, on Saturday, June 6, 2015 where chapter CE will be recognized as a centennial chapter.
