Cecil E. Constable, 95, of Hannibal, died at 11:40 a.m. Thursday, January 5, 2012 at Hannibal Regional Hospital in Hannibal, Mo. Funeral Services were at 1:30 p.m. Monday, January 9, at the James O’Donnell Funeral Home in Hannibal. Rev. Tim Goodman officiated. Burial with full military rites by Emmette J Shields American Legion Post 55 was at Grand View Burial Park in Hannibal, Mo.
Visitation was from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. Sunday at the James O’Donnell Funeral Home.
Mr. Constable was born August 31, 1916, to Joe and Orpha Somers Constable.
He was first married to Nellie Cooper on April 12, 1941, she preceded him in death on December 19, 1969. He then married Clara Tate and she preceded him in death March, 1989.
Survivors include one son, Gary Constable (Cricket) of Farber, Mo., and one daughter, Mary Little of Pekin, Ill., daughter-in-law, Evelyn Constable of Curryville, Mo., a special friend, Geraldine Tate, one sister, Gladys Brown of Hannibal, Mo., grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Constable is preceded in death by his parents, an infant daughter, one son, LeRoy Constable, brother, Jessie James Constable, and two sisters, Rose Lee Record, and Josephine Stover.
Mr. Constable retired from Burlington Northern Railroad in 1976. He was a veteran of the US Army having served in WW II Eng. Battalion (860 Engineer Aviation Battalion) serving in New Guinea and the South Phillipines, earning two Bronze Stars. Cecil was a member of Emmitte J. Shields American Legion Post 55, and a member of the VFW 2446.
Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Association for Breast Cancer or Alzheimer’s Association in care of James O’Donnell’s Funeral Home .
Pallbearers were Steve Little, Jeff Little, Bryan Little, Teddy Constable, Mike Constable, and Dave Lodde.
